HABITS HOBBIES AND  LIFE AS A  MUSICIAN

 

Music is my main game and it always has been although music is not the only way I have paid the bills and helped to run a home. I came up in a business family and learned a lot from my mom and dad. Over decades they owned and operated several businesses finally settling in with a Real Estate company for thirty some years. I obtained my license which I held in good standing for ten years taking continuing education classes and enrolling into community college for over a year. During that period the emphasis was International Business, Marketing and Business Law. Managed to sell and list a number of properties and a couple small commercial packages as well but I knew in my heart that wasn’t what really made me happy. So that was the end of Real Estate or me.

I toiled at manual labor beginning with working on my uncles’ dairy farm, milking cows, cleaning the barns and hauling in the hay. For about a year I was a welder in a big industrial setting making fuel tanks for big rigs. Soon after that I did restaurant work and learned the pizza business in a college town in California. During that time I became a regular on a syndicated Country-Western TV show where I sang and played the guitar. Years later I would study television production and became a volunteer producer-host for a regional television Public Access station where I produced or worked on several hundred different shows, which led to my interest in video editing and production.

In the early two-thousands I went to work in the motorcycle industry where I sold Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki for four years and then to BMW motorcycles for about a year. Next I reinvented myself and published and online music magazine called Damn Good Tunes which lasted fifteen years. Right around then I found myself hosting an AM radio talk show in Las Vegas for a while called “Journey To Wellness “where my job was interviewing doctors from all walks of life and modalities of healing. 

Automobiles have always intrigued me and I learned how to be a pretty good mechanic at least good enough to keep our family cars on the road and save thousands in repairs. Sometimes I even repaired our washers and dryers again to save money. But it would always be music at the end of the day that pulled me in as an artist first, then late, a technician learning everything I could about recording engineering. Starting like most folks on reel-to-reel tape recorders and portable Hard Disc machines to eventually working with Pro Tools(By Avid) and other audio software. If it holds my interest I can learn almost anything. We all can.

These days I divide my professional time as a front man, band leader, singer-songwriter and producer with a more domestic “hands-on” experience of remodeling and maintaining a home. Carpentry, plumbing and electrical are just a few of the elements one has to be armed with knowledge for getting things done and thank heaven for You Tube! Several of my best friends are contractors and they build homes, barns and know how to really work with wood and other building materials. I envy them and pick their brains whenever I can. 

Yes I have done many things in this life and have enjoyed the learning all along my pathway.
